Downtempo Decaf

Downtempo Decaf

Not my favorite decaf, but it is comforting and simple, making it an easy drink when I’m grinding at night. It’s just that the smell is far more “burnt/chemically” which makes my brain sad.

From the Roasters

Decaf is truly having a moment. The old “death before decaf” adage is quickly being subverted as industry-leading decaffeinators have upped the ante with decaf you’d be just as happy to enjoy. This revolution of sorts has been followed and promoted by legends like James Hoffmann, who created the Decaf Project to showcase the real innovations of modern methods decaffeination and allow us all to explore them side-by-side.

This particular decaf comes from Ricardo Zelaya’s farm in the Nuevo Oriente region of Guatemala via our friends at Common Goal Coffee. It made a quick stop at the Swiss Water Decaf facility in Delta, BC, where they deftly removed the caffeine without the use of additional chemicals, leaving the vibrant terroir and texture intact.

Finally, it came to our roastery, where we treated it gently to accentuate those winning characteristics and create a coffee you’d be happy to drink at any time of day, no matter where your caffeine threshold might be.

Enjoy this beautiful example of how far decaf has come, as either filter, press, or espresso!
